Led by librarians Kyla Stephan and Cheryl Aubrey alongside local artist Chelsea Jewell, this session explores the rich resources of the Local Studies Collection and how they can support your next creative project. While particularly valuable for artists developing place-based work, the collection offers inspiration for creatives of all disciplines, helping uncover new ideas, forgotten stories and unexpected narratives.
Take an exclusive tour and learn how to access and navigate both the digital and physical collections. Discover a wealth of knowledge about the Gold Coast’s people, places, culture, and changing landscapes, and explore how historical research can enrich contemporary practice.
Chelsea will share insights from her Generate GC installation A Clamour of Cabanas, including how she used the Local Studies resources to inform the research and development of this work.
You’ll then put your new skills into practice through a hands-on exploration of the collection, uncovering stories, images and resources that could inspire your next creative project!
