The City of Gold Coast has partnered with Ruth Knight and Lisa Hughes to deliver this fun and practical session will reveal the power of storytelling when you don’t have a big budget or marketing team. If you want to use storytelling to build trust and credibility with donors, volunteers or beneficiaries, and explain the impact of your organisation, then you will benefit from this hands-on workshop.

The workshop will explore simple ways to create compelling stories that resonate with your audience, attract supporters, and drive impact – even on the tightest budget. You'll walk away feeling confident and ready to start sharing powerful stories.

Please bring a smart phone and your tablet or laptop. Free Wifi will be available. Don’t have access to a device? Don’t let that stop you! You can follow along with our tutor, join a small group or perhaps you would like to focus on written storytelling!


Want to know more about the facilitators Ruth Knight and Lisa Hughes:

Dr Ruth Knight brings over 30 years of experience working within the nonprofit sector, from grassroots community initiatives to national organisations. Throughout her extensive career, she has witnessed firsthand the transformative impact of authentic communication and understands the unique challenges and opportunities nonprofits face. Ruth is the Development Manager for Yalari (www.yalari.org) who provides education and leadership development to Indigenous young people from regional and remote Australia.


Lisa Hughes is a filmmaker and storyteller passionate about helping people craft imaginative, meaningful stories. After a decade in the North American film industry, Lisa now lives in Australia creating award-winning stories and comedies. Her work has screened at the Gold Coast Film Festival and been developed with Netflix and Northern Pictures. Lisa brings deep experience in writing, directing, producing, and performance to empower others to share authentic, impactful stories.
