In 2026 the 18-piece BBB will celebrate 52 years as the resident band of the Brisbane Jazz Club.
Directed by Composer/Arranger and educator Brad Esbensen, the band has become highly respected on the Brisbane jazz scene.
Their CDs 'Tailspin' and 'Groove Tonic' have attracted critical acclaim and the band always presents an entertaining performance at its regular monthly gigs at the Club.
Apart from the Brisbane Jazz Club, over its long history the band has featured at various jazz venues, including Sunshine Coast Jazz Club, Toowoomba Jazz Club, John Morrison’s ‘Big Band Bash’ at Port McQuarie and Gold Coast Jazz & Blues Club.
Leading the band since 2008 Musical Director Brad Esbensen is a very dedicated jazz composer and arranger and the band has recorded a number of his works on CD, the most recent being ‘Groove Tonic’ which features ‘Song of Peace’ – a memorable suite of music with a World War 2 theme.
London-born vocalist Alan Western with a wealth of experience as an entertainer is well-known to Brisbane audiences as a singer, compere, cabaret artist and actor. He has fronted the band on vocals since 1989 and is also known as a songwriter. His composition ‘Singin’ & Swingin’ was taken up by Casa Musica for their European dance music CDs.
Doors open at 6pm. Concert commences at 7pm. Bar and bistro available.

Presented by the Gold Coast City Jazz Club. Concerts are held twice monthly, usually on the first and third Tuesday. Occasionally add to that is a Sunday Twilight concert.
