Help restore fish habitat at Saltwater Creek by planting 3,500 native plants along the creek banks.

Did you know that plants provide important habitat for fish? Vegetation along the edges of creeks and rivers, known as the riparian zone, helps filter pollutants and excess nutrients, stabilise sediment, and provide shade – all essential for native fish to thrive.

As part of a project dedicated to improving water quality, fish habitat, overall creek health, and community amenity, OzFish is working with the Gold Coast community to restore hectares of riparian vegetation. Join us to plant 3,500 native species and make a lasting difference for fish habitat.

Please ensure you wear enclosed shoes, sun-safe clothing, a hat and sunscreen, and a water bottle to stay hydrated. A free BBQ lunch and cold drinks will be provided to thank all volunteers for their efforts.

This event will be a great day out for families to connect with nature while giving back to the local waterway.

About Saltwater Creek

Saltwater Creek is under pressure from urban development, facing decreased water quality, degraded riparian zones, and barriers that prevent fish from moving freely. Restoring urban waterways like Saltwater Creek is crucial for rebuilding fish productivity, supporting aquatic biodiversity, improving flood mitigation and climate resilience, and enhancing community well-being.

This project will tackle waste issues in the creek through community clean-ups and stormwater improvements, restore riparian zones through weed control and revegetation, and improve fish passage by addressing barriers.

This project is funded by the Australian Government’s Urban Rivers and Catchments Program and supported by BCF – Boating, Camping, Fishing.
