Paul Hendon's Goodman Sextet

Tuesday 18 August 2026 | 07:00 PM

Southport
Paul Hendon’s Goodman Sextet will be bringing the sound of the Benny Goodman Small Group recordings to life at the Gold Coast City Jazz Club.

Made famous by the Goodman/Lionel Hampton collaboration all those years ago, the combination of clarinet and vibraphone still offers a delightful pairing where the clarinet's focused sound is juxtaposed with the vibraphone's resonant, shimmering tones to create a unique and engaging musical experience.

Backed by a seasoned and sympathetic rhythm section, the group is looking forward to presenting their version of standards such as “Avalon” & “Moonglow”, as well as a few of the lesser known but equally beautiful tunes hidden away in many of Goodman’s recordings.

There will also be a nod to some of Goodman’s big band recordings from the Swing Era, and with two of those on stage also talented vocalists, they may even break out in song at some point!

  • Paul Hendon – clarinet, saxophone
  • Glenn Henrich (Sydney) – vibraphone, saxophone

  • Alex Compton (Sydney) – double bass
