Saturday 14 June 2025 | 08:20 AM
Surfers Paradise
Providing young boys and girls aged 14 to 17 from First Nations communities an opportunity to showcase their skills and participate in a spirited competition.
Join us for a day filled with exhilarating footy action, community spirit, and cultural celebration. Bringing together players from communities from the far north of our beautiful state and through to the south-east.
Bunburra is the Yugambeh word for ‘beach’.
Bunburra fosters sporting skills and leadership qualities and rewards motivated young people selected to play because of ongoing achievements throughout the year.
It also provides the opportunity for young people to meet others keen to kick goals in a context that supports pride, identity and achievement.
To earn their spot at Bunburra, players must demonstrate commitment to school, community involvement, leadership, and responsibility throughout the year, so this event is not only a testament to their hard work but also a unique learning experience for many, as they travel from remote areas to the Gold Coast.
More than 60 games of footy will be played throughout the day, with both athletes and spectators encouraged to witness the joy and camaraderie of players as well as experience cultural entertainment and ceremonies on the day.
