An afternoon of Japanese culture – contemporary fashion made from vintage Japanese kimonos, a traditional tea ceremony, saké and food, and a runway showcase.

A Japanese cultural showcase; where Japanese textile heritage meets contemporary art.

MUSUBI (結び) means to connect, to bind, or to tie together. This special evening celebrates the beauty of Japanese textiles, where vintage kimono fabrics are transformed into contemporary wearable art while honouring their history and craftsmanship. Set within the Glasshouse and Pavilion at Ground Currumbin, the evening unfolds through culture, food, music and fashion, culminating in a stunning runway showcase of reimagined kimono garments.

Food, Drinks & Conversation | 5pm – 6pm

Stories & Runway Showcase | 6pm – 7pm

Hosted by MC Pete Aubort, the evening features conversations with Yuko and Kenya Hiraga and designer Mie Ogihara, sharing the stories behind the garments and the cultural heritage that inspired them. You'll also discover the restoration of Shoki, a 120-year-old former geisha teahouse, and learn about the Ina Valley in Japan, where nature and community continue to shape everyday life.

The evening concludes with the MUSUBI Runway Showcase – a striking presentation of contemporary garments created from traditional kimono fabrics, accompanied by cinematic lighting and an original Japanese fusion soundtrack.
