Join us for a great afternoon of acoustic music filled with community spirit where musicians and music lovers come together.
As a guitar player, one of the best parts of my job is finding and booking our feature acts. Whenever I hear there’s someone performing nearby that I haven’t come across before, I’ll usually head out for a listen, and it’s been a real eye-opener to just how much talent is out there. Every now and then, though, I stumble across an act that completely floors me. That’s what happened with this month’s feature. Their guitar playing is next-level, the kind that makes my jaw drop and makes me think about giving up and burning my guitars! But honestly, it’s just a real treat to listen to musicians with that kind of skill and passion.
Avalon Swing is an acoustic swing trio blending rhythm guitar and vocals (Mia O'Brien), fingerstyle and improvisational guitar (Tim O'Brien) and the irresistible drive of danceable double bass (Roger Brand). Their repertoire features fresh arrangements of classics by Benny Goodman, Django Reinhardt, Carlos Santana, Chet Atkins, and iconic voices from the swing and contemporary jazz-folk eras.
Having performed widely across venues and festivals in Australia and New Zealand, Avalon Swing transport audiences to French cafes, swing-era dancehalls, and beyond – offering virtuosic guitar, infections rhythms and warm friendly vocals designed to energise, elevate and uplift.
