Currumbin Waters
Studio 8 Currumbin is proud to present Between Wound & Repair, a new solo exhibition by Abstract expressionist artist Jo Kaiser.

In this body of work, Jo explores the emotions, experiences and fractures we often carry quietly, the things we hide, suppress or tuck away. But this is not an exhibition about sadness; it is about recognition, restoration and healing.

Working intuitively with oil, mixed media and hand stitching, Jo allows each painting to evolve through feeling, layering and response. The stitching becomes a physical expression of both fracture and repair, reflecting the exhibition’s central themes of connection and restoration.

A defining element of Between Wound & Repair is its invitation for the viewer to participate. The artworks are deliberately left untitled and unexplained, allowing each person to interpret what they see through their own experiences and emotions.

Visitors are encouraged to write a thought, feeling, memory or response and display it alongside the artwork, creating an evolving collection of shared interpretations throughout the exhibition.

In this way, the exhibition becomes more than a collection of paintings, it becomes a conversation between artist, artwork and audience.

At the heart of the exhibition is Jo’s belief that “when we connect we find our sameness.” While our individual stories may differ, our emotions can connect us, reminding us of our shared humanity.

Jo Kaiser has been developing her artistic practice for more than 25 years, working within abstract expressionism and creating intuitively from emotion. Alongside her studio practice, Jo is an Art Therapy Practitioner and facilitates creative experiences focused on expression, connection and rediscovering creativity.

Between Wound & Repair offers visitors the opportunity to pause, feel, interpret and connect and perhaps to recognise something of themselves within the work of another.
