Ceramic workshop learning hand building techniques and Nerikomi applications of layering different coloured clays.
Join ceramic artist Natalie Yates for a creative, beginner-friendly two-day workshop exploring hand-building with Nerikomi, a decorative clay technique that layers coloured clay to create pattern through the form itself.
Day 1 focuses on creating Nerikomi clay patterns, which participants will then apply to a series of small ceramic homewares using the pinch pot method. You’ll learn the fundamentals of hand building while experimenting with colour, pattern, and form.
Day 2 introduces the scratch-back technique, where participants carefully carve back into their leather-hard pieces to reveal the Nerikomi designs beneath the surface. You’ll refine and finish your work, preparing pieces ready for firing.
This workshop is designed specifically for beginners, with step-by-step guidance and plenty of opportunity to explore at your own pace.
All materials provided. Finished works will be fired and returned at a later date.
Places are limited to ensure individual support. Perfect for anyone interested in contemporary ceramics, surface design, and creative process.
