The ancient city of Pompeii reveals a great deal about ancient Roman life, from the way people decorated their homes, to the way they socialised and observed ritual practices. Surviving in great numbers are ceramic vessels in a range of shapes and sizes – each with specific functional and cultural uses. Alongside amphoras for wine and pots for cooking, a number of decorated vessels were discovered in temples and religious complexes. Adorned with fantastical creatures, fruits and figures these objects are as mysterious as they are beautiful!
In this hands-on making workshop, we will craft our own three-dimensional vessels inspired by those found in The Magic Rites Complex. Using a variety of card and paper-based materials we'll model our pots and then bring them to life with our own magical symbols.
We encourage you and your adult to explore the Inside Pompeii: Origins of a European Way of Life exhibition before or after the making activity.
